You only need two things to make it as a star on YouTube – a good camera and a good idea. So long as you own a relatively recent smartphone, you already have one of those things covered. Now all you need is a good idea – and you might even have one already. How do you get started, though? Where should you look for inspiration, and how do you begin to attract a following?

Given the sheer number of channels that now operate on YouTube (over twenty-three million the last time they were counted), you might think it’s not even worth trying. With so many people trying to break through the noise – some of whom are genuinely talented individuals who haven’t been able to find an audience – you might think that you have no chance of breaking into the top ten channels, or even the top one hundred. That isn’t the case, though. YouTube stardom is available to everybody, and all you have to do is give yourself the opportunity to take it.

We can’t guarantee that you’ll make money from YouTube, and nor can anybody else. We can, however, point you in the right direction. There are certain habits that every successful YouTuber follows, and certain interest groups within YouTube who are more enthusiastic than others. All you need to do is find them and appeal to them. Try following our advice, and be lucky!

Consider Reaction Videos

Depending on where you live in the world, you may or may not have heard of a British television show called ‘Gogglebox.’ The premise of Gogglebox is very simple – it’s a show in which viewers watch other people as they’re watching popular television shows. Its success has baffled some critics, but we know why it works. Have you ever watched a movie or a TV show, and then watched it again with a friend to see their reaction, hoping they love it as much as you do? We’ve all done it, and it’s because seeing someone else react to something for the first time makes us feel like we’re seeing it for the first time again, too. Pick your favorite TV show, and record yourself reacting to it. Be careful of copyright laws – you can usually only use ten minutes or less of a show’s audio or video footage under fair usage laws. It’s not uncommon for people to pick up thousands of views and hundreds of new subscribers from a single video if they pick the right show.

Pick A Topic You’re Passionate About

People are better at picking up on insincerity and faked passion than we suspect they are. If you’re doing something ‘just for views’ and you don’t truly care for the subject, it will come across on screen whether you want it to or not. The best YouTube stars are authentic. They speak to the camera exactly as they’d speak to their friends, and we’re drawn to them because we feel like they’re letting us in on their lives. Their channels feel personable and real. You can’t provide that feeling on your own channel if you’re faking your enthusiasm for a subject. Whether its movie reviews, video games, pranks, or something else, base your channel around something you really love. Bear in mind that if you’re successful, you’re going to be talking about this subject for a long time, so if it was something you don’t care about, it would be as frustrating for you as it is for your audience.

Make ASMR Videos

If you’ve never heard of ASMR videos, stop reading this article and search for the term on YouTube. Prepare to be amazed by the numbers. People with ASMR channels often have millions of subscribers and an average of ten million views or more for their most popular videos. ASMR stands for autonomous sensory meridian response and is a sensation that happens within the brain when encountering certain sounds. You might even have felt it yourself when lying in bed late at night, listening to rain on the window. For a lot of people, though, it’s triggered by quiet, whispered voices. Some people use it to help them get to sleep at night, and others might use it as a way to reduce their levels of stress or anxiety. In either eventuality, it’s worth you occasionally posting ASMR videos to capitalize on this audience. You can still talk about whatever it is you want to talk about – just do it quietly! As with reaction channels, ASMR channels tend to experience rapid growth.

Upload, Upload, Upload

There’s no way of ensuring that anyone of your YouTube videos will reach a wide audience. A video that you thought wasn’t particularly strong might attract thousands of views, whereas the one you put a lot of thought and effort into might sometimes attract almost nothing at all. YouTube is a lottery, and it works like the games on an online slots website such as Rose Slots. You can place the same bet on an online slots website one hundred times, get nothing whatsoever in return ninety-nine times, and then win a huge cash payout on the hundredth time. There’s no rhyme or reason to it – that’s just the way it works. Success with a YouTube video is no more reliable than success with online slots, although, in both scenarios, you’ll be very glad of it when it happens! To give yourself the best possible chance of success, you need to upload as many videos as you can. Until your channel has developed a steady following, that means at least one a day. If you’re able to record several videos in a day, you can save yourself time in the future by staggering their release over the course of the next week, and therefore give yourself more time to record new content in the meantime.

Learn Some Basic Video Editing Skills

The days where a basic video will get you noticed on YouTube are over. If you want to make a success of your channel, you need to become a brand. That means having a logo, a theme, and perhaps even a soundtrack. Your videos need to look slick, and so that means you need to get to grips with at least the basics of adding graphics to them. Learn how to do overlays. Learn how to do picture-in-picture. Spending a few days getting to grips with the essential skills will help you look like a pro at the YouTube game right from the start. The best place to look for help with video editing, by the way, is YouTube!

To summarize our advice, upload often, edit well and pick categories that have been shown to attract viewers quickly. Getting to one million subscribers is a challenge, but almost anybody can make it to a few thousand – and depending on your strategy for monetization, a few thousand might be all you need!
