Animation: Meaning, History, Career, and Scope

Animation is the art of bringing pictures to life. In simple words, the animation is the method of moving still images so that it appears like a real-life motion. Earlier, the still images were drawn by hands or painted on transparent celluloid sheets. Today, computer-generated imagery (CGI) has overtaken the traditional method of making animated movies.

The animation was introduced long before the arrival of cinematography. The first animated movie- Pauvre Pierrot, was filmed in 1892. Then, the cinematic industry started creating animation through various techniques such as stop-motion, puppets, clay, and drawn animation between 1895 to 1920. At present, industries are using CGI for making animations for different sectors.

Initially, animation was restricted to the media and entertainment industry. Now, animation is extensively being used in education, advertisement, marketing, gaming, and medical industries, among others.
